What is the different between a generic and a brand-name drug?
Basically, the main difference is the price. The generic drug is less expensive than the branded product. The generic may have secondary differences in appearance (shape, size, colour), flavours, preservatives and inactive ingredients but it contains the same active ingredient in the same strength and is just as effective as its brand-name counterpart.
Are generic drugs safe to use?
Yes. Because they use the same active ingredients, the same dosage, and the same effects as their brand-name equivalent, they are just as safe.
Are generics just as strong?
Yes. Generics share the same strength, dosage, purity and quality as branded drugs. If they did not, then the generic manufacturer would have to do new research and testing and this would make the generic drug more expensive.
